Domenico Ghirlandaio (or Ghirlandajo)
Domenico Di Tommaso Bigordi

born: Florence, [now Italy]; 1449
died: Florence, [now Italy]; 11 January 1494

Ghirlandaio was not a favored artist in the Renaissance. He never received a major commission from any of the leading patrons of the arts. Recently his reputation has looked more like the stock market. In the late 19th century he began to be appreciated, only to lose his favor in the first half of the 20th century. Currently his reputation is up, and he is now considered a leading early renaissance Florentine painter.
